QUEEN – Quick thoughts

I think the last completely female-centric hindi movie I thoroughly enjoyed was Kahaani. And now thankfully, we have Queen. And we need some more. Kangana Ranaut totally reigns, rules and lords (excuse the puns) over this breezy, real and heartfelt finding-yourself flick with a highly nuanced, extremely believable and completely endearing portrayal of the quirky lovable Rani. She’s strongly aided by a fun supporting cast including a smoking hot Lisa Haydon, a pitch perfect jerk played by Rajkumar Rao and a host of others while Amit Trivedi’s trademark tunes and Anvita Dutt’s soulful lyrics add beautifully to Rani’s endearing journey. My only minor gripe was with the slightly long back story post which the movie really picked up. Our girl really lives out those famous words by the other Queen – I want to break free! And she does.
